Postdoctoral Position in Atmospheric Science
A postdoctoral position at NorthWest Research Associates (NWRA) is available through a collaborative project with Stanford, Rice, and New York Universities. The project will develop data-driven parameterizations of atmospheric gravity waves and explore their impact on climate variability and change. The project will involve novel balloon-based observations, high-resolution atmospheric model simulations, machine learning, and atmospheric modeling. The Principal Investigators of the project are Joan Alexander (NWRA—Boulder), Edwin Gerber (New York Univ.), Pedram Hassanzadeh (Rice Univ.), and Aditi Sheshadri (Stanford Univ.).
At NWRA-Boulder, the work will focus on high-resolution atmospheric gravity-wave-resolving modeling and analysis, and on analysis of the balloon-based observations as well as weather radar observations.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in atmospheric science or a related field at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to carry out creative, innovative, independent research, and to publish in the peer-reviewed literature. The initial appointment is expected to be for one year, with the possibility of renewal for subsequent years depending on performance.
NWRA (www.nwra.com) is a scientific research organization, owned and operated by its Principal Investigators, with expertise in the geophysical and space sciences. This position is located in NWRA's Boulder, CO, office. Opportunities for career growth are available at NWRA, with mentorship by world-class experts across a range of research areas. NWRA provides a supportive environment for scientists who have a passion for their research, a desire to continue learning, and who enjoy communicating their research and research ideas through papers, presentations, and proposals. NWRA scientists may eventually become Principal Investigators of their own projects and co-owners of NWRA.
